About Mukesh Bajaj

I was born in a small town in India. My mum and dad were very loving and supportive, providing me with all the care and freedom I could ever want. My dad was a franchisee of a very successful logistics company, so money was never an issue.

Everything was going smoothly until the siblings of the franchisor had a fight and decided to shut down the business. It meant my father was without a business or an income. He looked for a similar-sized business to buy, but nothing was available. In a bold move, one of my uncles proposed they start a logistics company themselves.

While it started as an exciting opportunity, I can see now that my dad didn’t have the skills to run this scale of business, which had a lot more overheads than the previous one. This new business demanded a different mindset, skill set, and capital which my dad didn’t have. He was behind paying wages some months. He had to borrow money from friends and relatives to keep the business going. He was stuck and couldn’t see any path forward that would allow him to lighten this load. I tried to help them as much as I could but couldn’t do much while also working as a young man.

One of my friend encouraged me come to Australia to study MBA. Needless to say, my family had financial challenges and no savings. When I landed in Australia, I worked in restaurants to pay the bills while I was studying. After completing Masters in Accounting and CPA (Certified Practices of Accountants), I started my own accounting practice to look after small and medium business clients.

While working in Australian public practice, I realised three major problems existed in business that I wanted to correct:

I saw the same patterns of stress and uncertainty in the clients I worked with as I had witnessed with my mum and dad first hand. Clients connected with me because I felt their pain.

Fast forward few years, everything had been going well. I had solved those three problem for our clients. Despite my success, I often felt unfulfilled. When I was riding high, I wanted to go big, but setbacks and losses would shrink my vision. I was growing and hiring more people, but without the right systems in place, we were dropping balls, and jobs were being completed at the last minute. A bigger office meant more people, and with that, overheads increased. After a few months, I would think, “Let’s just grow a bit, sign up a few clients, and focus on looking after them.” While concentrating on clients’ day-to-day work, I would lose sight of our bigger purpose. My focus would constantly shift between the present and the future, leaving me in constant inner conflict.

One day, I stopped for a moment and reflected on my journey. I noticed that my mum was brought up in an environment where she did not value herself as she was brought up in an environment of scarcity & anxiety. My dad lived a stressful life because he could not create enough money from the business. I realised that I was getting in to the same situation as my dad and that bothered me. I did not want to be in that situation for myself, my wife Nidhi, my 2 year old son Sid and for my mum & dad. So I decided to take a massive action to fix the issue forever.

Once I aired my frustrations, I handpicked two team members and we locked ourselves in the conference room to conduct an exercise that would change everything. It started with two simple questions, which I wrote onto the office whiteboard:

Who are we?

Why do we do what we do?

We brainstormed from 7 AM to 7 PM, Monday to Saturday, for three months. It was one of the most intense processes I’ve ever experienced, both personally and professionally, but it was worth it. When we emerged from that room, those whiteboard scribbles had transformed into our value system. Once I found my core values, everything changed. The feeling of being lost and stuck disappeared. My path became clearer, and I began making decisions that aligned with my true self. I felt happy, content, and focused on creating my own life. It was as if I had a magic wand and could create anything I wanted. With each step guided by my values, I felt more confident and grounded. I no longer felt like I was aimlessly wandering through life. Instead, I was actively shaping my own destiny.

Since then, I’ve read hundreds of books, listened to hundreds of podcasts, and learned from the greatest thought leaders around the globe. During this journey of learning, I found a very simple yet profound word: “Serving.” That was the ‘Aha’ moment that lifted me out of my miserable, empty life. I kept reflecting on what serving meant for me, time and time again. During a particularly challenging period, I had a breakthrough. I realized that my fulfillment came from fulfilling other people’s lives—seeing people get unstuck, helping them gain clarity about themselves, and guiding them to find their purpose and achieve it. This is how I found a life of purpose and joy.

Now that I knew my purpose and values, the next step was figuring out how to achieve that purpose. I was initially thrilled by the vast amount of knowledge available—the sheer abundance of books and resources was amazing. However, despite my love for learning, I soon found myself stuck and lost. I felt like I was drowning in an ocean of opinions and theories, unable to decide which wisdom to follow. The conflicting and incomplete processes created anxiety, leaving me in a state of indecision.

I realized I needed to find a roadmap, a framework to consolidate all these learnings in one place. This would help me discern which advice to ignore and which to follow, which path to take, and which to avoid. My quest for a cohesive operating system led me to create a framework that is both complete and sequential. Now, I can integrate all the learnings and conflicting opinions into this framework, where they all coexist in harmony.

This value system evolved into the 7 Step Fulfilment System. As I embraced these lessons and began putting them into practice, I saw profound changes in myself. I was no longer the jealous, anxious, and unhappy person I had been in my youth. This system transformed me from feeling like a headless chicken into a fulfilled human being.
